Ways to prevent

How can I prevent this disease?

Although affected countries have ordered for mass culling of poultry, some preventive measures are still recommended:

  • Avoid contact with infected, live animals in farms and markets. Don't touch their oral excretions or droppings.
  • Wash your hands well and practice good personal hygiene at all times, especially after handling poultry products.
  • Eat plenty of fresh plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains to bolster the immune system with disease-fighting nutrients.

Studies show that the bird flu virus can survive in raw frozen meat and raw or half-cooked eggs. So if you must eat poultry products, thoroughly cook the meat and eggs at high temperatures (over 70 degrees Celsius).
